CQK Records & Music is a record label and music publishing
company committed to creating quality songs with positive
and relevant messages for today's audiences in a panorama
of musical styles.
CQK
Records & Music is a music company and record
label that grew out of the prolific songwriting career
of its president Mary Dawson. A lifelong
songwriter herself, Mary became professionally involved
in the Music industry in 1981, after pursuing several
other careers, including a twelve year overseas assignment
as a vocational Christian worker on the island-nation
of Singapore.
Originally
established in 1987, to serve as a small publishing
vehicle for her own songs, CQK Records & Music
grew with the enlargement of Mary's catalog of songs.
From 1990-1995, composer, arranger and orchestrator
Bruce Greer joined CQK Records & Music as
a partner and collaborated with Mary to further extend
the catalog to over 200 songs in all styles and genres.
Since
its earliest beginnings CQK Records & Music
has sought to discern and discover the most sensitive
areas of human need, and then to write songs and create
products that will speak to those needs with emotional
relevance, positive messages and spiritual truth.
For
example, in 1990, when the Gulf War erupted in the
Mideast, Mary Dawson and Bruce Greer felt compelled
to use their musical gifts to encourage and comfort
the many military families who would be separated
during the 1990 Christmas season. CQK Records &
Music released a single cassette containing two CQK
songs. Side A featured Long Distance Christmas
a pop duet which expresses the emotions of separation
from loved ones at Christmas time. The other side
contained the Gospel Christmas song, Unspeakable Gift
which encapsulates the spiritual meaning of
the season.
Although
the project was not completed until November 1, far
past the usual deadline for the recording of Christmas
material, it had a powerful impact in the lives of
many service personnel and their families. Long Distance
Christmas received airplay on over
1200 stations across the United States and was also
broadcast into the Gulf area by US Military Radio.
In addition, over 4000 copies of the cassette were
distributed to the troops stationed in the Mideast.
Resulting correspondence with individual servicemen
and women revealed that many were encouraged and touched
by the impact of the songs.
In
1991, CQK Records & Music added its own record
label to its publishing arm to serve as a medium for
the unique positive life-oriented songs which the
publishing catalog contained. That year two albums
were produced. The first album, Life
... As It Really Is, recorded by Bruce Greer
contained contemporary songs in many styles focusing
on the "life-issues" we face as we grow
spiritually. The second album, The
Serenity Songs Project: Twelve Steps To Freedom
is a collection of songs written around the spiritual
principles of each of the Twelve Steps of Recovery
first used by Alcoholics Anonymous and now by many
related organizations. Grammy-Award winner, Cynthia
Clawson is featured on this album as well as six other
very gifted artists including, Babbie Mason, Jessy
Dixon, Joe Bright, Tommy Clawson, Patti Berry and
Bruce Greer.
In
1993, the third CQK Records & Music album
was recorded entitled Why
Pray? This recording contains ten songs
in a variety of musical styles on the various aspects
of the subject of prayer -- from the 50's novelty
style title cut, Why
Pray?, to the R&B number,
Peace
in You, to the Country song, Pray and Watch
and the power pop duet, When You Haven't Got a Prayer
.
A
Christmas Odyssey was recorded in 1994. Songs
on this album cover the entire holiday season -- from
Thanksgiving to Christmas and include traditional
favorites as well as seven new, original Christmas
songs from CQK Records & Music. Again, songs were
written in all styles and to express the many moods
of Christmas -- from the fun and lighthearted side
to the inspirational and profound.
Wrapped
in Hope, recorded by CQK Country artist, Kevin James,
was released in 1996. Kevin's renditions
of several CQK Christmas songs, as well as many old
favorites, gained him considerable radio airplay during
the 1996 holiday season.

CQK's
philosophy in both creating and marketing its products
is as follows:
- Focus
on the Song -- A great song lives forever, so
we specialize in great songwriting.
- Find
the Need and Fill It -- Write, produce and distribute
songs and recordings, and create services which
will address needs in the human experience that
have not been adequately filled or addressed.
